Glass Baby Bottles Information

What Are Glass Baby Bottles?

These are baby bottles that are made out of glass as opposed to plastic. Glass bottles were very popular during the early part of the 20th century. With the invention of plastic, there was a slow move away from glass to the new plastic. Plastic has become a staple in the baby bottle business.

Most people did not like glass bottles because they felt that glass is very easy to break. This means that a glass bottle could be cracked, chipped or even break during sterilization. This could mean that the baby could become exposed a highly dangerous object that could find its way into the formula or milk of the baby. Glass splinters could do tremendous damage to child, if ingested. Aside from these health risks, plastic bottles proved to be much cheaper and much more durable. Glass bottles are still being made, but plastic bottles continue to dominate the market.

Glass Baby Bottles Vs Plastic Bottles

Glass Baby Bottles are seeing a rise in popularity again because there have been some findings that show plastic baby bottles may be harmful to your child. Studies have been done to show that the Polycarbonate baby bottles that so many mothers use contain a trace toxin, bisphenol-A. Bisphenol-A risks to humans is unknown so many people are switching to glass. This is mainly due to the amount of toxins that a baby ingests is a very large amount, compared to the baby’s body weight. This is also coupled with the fact that the baby’s organs are still growing and more than likely affected more than that of a full grown adult.

Both plastic and glass baby bottles are recyclable; however glass does not release toxins into the baby’s body.  Glass is also a renewable resource] while plastic bottles are petroleum based products, requiring the use of non-renewable resources.
